- Work closely with meteorologists, climate reporters and science contributors to elevate their reporting into highly engaging, multi-platform formats.
- Collaborate with photo editors, video producers, illustrators and designers to ensure stories are visually ambitious and distinctive.
- Ensure that travel and experience-driven stories remain grounded in science and aligned with the team’s editorial mission.
- Balance timely news pegs with durable, evergreen storytelling that builds audience habit and affinity.
- Uphold CNN’s standards for accuracy, fairness and clarity, ensuring scientific precision and audience trust in every piece.
- Significant digital editorial experience in science, climate, weather, space or environmental journalism.
- Demonstrated experience shaping explanatory or visually driven storytelling, particularly in a product or social format (e.g., Snapchat Discover, Instagram, news app products).
- Experience working with and coaching on-camera talent, helping experts translate complex ideas into compelling, personality-driven video formats.
- Strong editing skills with the ability to translate complex scientific material into accessible language without oversimplifying.
- Excellent news judgment, including the ability to identify both timely and durable opportunities.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including visual and video partners.
- Strong headline and framing instincts that spark curiosity while maintaining credibility.
- Familiarity with Earth science, atmospheric science, climate systems or planetary science preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
