About this job

OUR STUDIO

At Housemarque, we believe gameplay always comes first. With technical excellence and compelling narrative, spiced with our trademark neon flair and top-notch audiovisual feedback, we want our players to always feel actively engaged with the worlds we have created for them.

Our latest Award-Winning game Returnal, released on PS5 in 2021, embraces all these qualities. THIS is our DNA!

We value Nordic work-life balance by growing sustainably and ensuring our employees have the time and means to develop personally and professionally during work time.

We were established in 1995 with strong roots in the Finnish demoscene. In June 2021 we joined the PlayStation Studios, after years of partnership.

If you wish to join us for our next journey, apply today!

We are looking for a Senior Technical Rigger to join us for our next big game at Housemarque.

The Job

As a Senior Technical Rigger, you will take ownership of complex rigging systems and contribute to the evolution of our pipelines and tooling. You will work closely with Technical Directors and a highly skilled, cross-disciplinary team to deliver high-quality, performant solutions that support production at scale.

You will maintain a holistic view of rigging systems, support the needs of animation and gameplay teams, and contribute to both current production and future pipeline initiatives.

What will your day-to-day look like?

A typical day begins as you arrive at our downtown Helsinki studio. Maybe you start with a workout in the in-house gym and grab a healthy breakfast before settling in with a good coffee. After catching up with teammates, you review priorities across rigging, tooling, or pipeline improvements.

You might spend your morning building or refining complex rigs, debugging challenging deformation issues, or collaborating with engineers on tool development. You could also review a colleague’s work or send out a request for feedback on a system you’ve been developing.

Later, you join the team’s daily sync before heading out to lunch. In the afternoon, you might collaborate with other disciplines to solve a production challenge or jump on a call with a co-development partner to align on workflows.

You wrap up your day by documenting systems or planning the next steps for features you own.

What will you do?

  • Design, build, and maintain complex rigging and deformation systems
  • Drive improvements to pipelines, workflows, and tooling
  • Collaborate closely with Animation, Art, and Engineering to solve production challenges
  • Ensure high-quality results while balancing performance and usability
  • Support and mentor less experienced team members
  • Take ownership of systems and adapt priorities as development evolves
  • Implement and maintain character setup within Unreal Engine, including cloth simulation, physics assets, and destruction systems.

What qualities will contribute to your success?

  • 5+ years of experience in professional game development
  • Deep understanding of rigging systems, procedural approaches, and deformation
  • Strong scripting skills (Python and APIs)
  • Experience working with real-time engines and runtime constraints
  • Strong communication skills in spoken and written English
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and help others contribute to shared goals
  • Motivation to find solutions that balance time, effort, and quality
  • Tenacity in locating and fixing complex issues

What do we offer to you?

  • Competitive salary, benefits, healthcare & Nordic work-life balance
  • Tailored immigration and relocation package to help you get settled into Finland
  • State-of-the-art studio facilities in the heart of Helsinki
  • Freedom, flexibility and openness in a collaborative culture
  • Brilliant, diverse and empathetic colleagues to work with
  • Exciting and ambitious projects executed with the best tools
  • Access to PlayStation Studios collaboration, games and more
