Job Description:
We’re looking for a hands-on Art Director to help shape the next generation of casual mobile games at King. You’ll join a small, newly formed, cross-functional team exploring new game ideas through rapid prototyping and player testing, then developing the titles that show promise.
The team is an on-site team (5 days a week) based in Stockholm.
This role combines creative leadership with making art. You’ll define the visual direction, create assets yourself, and work closely with the team to get appealing art into playable builds quickly. You will have a close collaboration with the creative director to define the visual world fantasy. Fluency in AI-assisted art creation is essential: you know how to guide, refine and combine AI outputs with your own 2D and 3D skills to achieve the visual result you want.
You’ll bring strong artistic judgment, curiosity and the confidence to put work in front of external players early. You understand what needs polish, what’s ready to test, and when a different direction will teach us more.
Define and deliver the artistic vision. Explore distinctive, appealing visual directions for casual mobile games, working with both new and existing IP. Translate promising ideas into a coherent look that supports gameplay and connects with players.
Create art hands-on. Produce concepts, mock-ups and game-ready assets using 2D, 3D and AI-assisted workflows. Work closely with developers to get art into the game and evaluate it in context.
Make AI part of your creative practice. Choose the right tools for the task and take control of their outputs through clear direction, iteration and hands-on editing. Build practical, repeatable workflows that help the team move faster while maintaining a consistent style.
Prototype, test and adapt. Create good-looking art quickly and evolve the visuals based on player data. Be comfortable changing direction or letting go of work when a stronger opportunity emerges.
Lead and develop others. Give clear direction and actionable feedback to artists across game art, VFX, UI and animation. Coach and mentor the art team, lead external partners when needed, and balance leadership with your own creative contribution.
Collaborate across disciplines. Work closely with producers, designers, developers and marketing to connect visual decisions with gameplay, technical needs and the broader player experience.
Senior art direction experience and a strong craft foundation
Practical fluency in AI-assisted art creation
Hands-on skills in both 2D and 3D
An excellent eye for casual game visuals
A fast, flexible approach to development
A player-focused mindset
Experience leading multidisciplinary art teams
Clear, collaborative communication
An understanding of in-game implementation
Experience in small teams, new game development or rapid prototyping.
Hands-on experience implementing art in Unity.
Experience with world building, video production or animation.
Experience developing new IP or adapting established IP for new game experiences.
Please include an online portfolio showing your artistic range, hands-on work and art direction experience, including examples of both 2D and 3D work.
We’d especially like to see how you move from an idea to visuals in a playable game, and how you use AI within that process. For collaborative projects, clearly describe your contribution. Process examples, iterations and work shaped by player feedback are welcome alongside finished work.
