Application Performance Monitoring Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented Application Performance Monitoring (APM) Engineer to drive system reliability and efficiency. In this role, you will develop real-time monitoring dashboards, analyze metrics to resolve bottlenecks, and lead incident responses. Collaborating with SRE teams, you will optimize containerized applications, conduct performance testing, and maintain robust infrastructure visibility to ensure seamless application delivery.

This position is on a 24/7 rotation shift basis.

Responsibilities

• Develop monitoring dashboards and alerts to provide real-time visibility into application performance metrics, including response time, throughput, error rates, and resource utilisation;
• Analyse APM data to identify performance bottlenecks, root causes of issues, and opportunities for optimisation;
• Work closely with SRE and infrastructure teams to ensure proper configuration and deployment of APM agents and collectors;
• Organise incident response activities to diagnose and resolve performance related issues in a timely manner;
• Conduct performance testing and analysis to assess the impact of changes and upgrades on application performance;
• Resolve support requests using the in-house applications, 3rd parties and following any required escalation procedures;
• Document APM best practices, procedures, and guidelines for the organisation;
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in application performance monitoring.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field;
• Proven experience working with APM tools such as New Relic, Prometheus, Elastic;
• Strong understanding of application architecture, including web servers, application servers, databases, and caching layers;
• Experience with containerised environments and orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift;
• Solid understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, and SSL;
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues;
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment; 
• Able to communicate and write in English;
• Experience with SQL is a plus;
• Proficiency in Shell scripting.
