The Engineering Acceleration team delivers a world-class development experience to our 2000+ Roblox teammates who write, build, and ship the most incredible virtual experience platform in the world. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will set the technical direction for transforming development at Roblox from its solid roots to a fully scaled, globally mature, AI-powered development, code review and CI environment. You Will:

• Own, scale, and define the long-term technical vision for Roblox's source code search, storage, review, and CI infrastructure for the next 10 years of growth.
• Architect software that improves the lives of your coworkers — spanning local development tools, internal web apps and microservices, reusable CI workflows, productivity metrics toolchains, and integrations across many 1st and 3rd party tools.
• Lead and drive major company-wide efforts improving the productivity and user experience of our Source and CI tools, setting direction across teams and impacting every engineer at Roblox.
• Define how AI and other cutting edge tech come into the day-to-day lives of Roblox engineers, revolutionizing their ability to produce better code faster with less toil and reintroducing them to the joy of software engineering.

You Have:

• 9+ years of software engineering experience, with a significant portion spent owning developer productivity, build infrastructure, or internal developer platform systems at scale.
• Owned end-to-end design, launch, and long-term evolution of tools or systems used by other developers at scale (2000+ engineers).
• Deep knowledge of source control and/or CI tools and infrastructure. GitHub, GitHub Actions, and Artifactory experience are a plus.
• Experience working with common cloud and hosting technologies, particularly AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Hashistack (Nomad, Vault, Terraform).
• Fluency in at least one common language (C#, Python, Go, Java).

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range

$295,250—$345,040 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).

Lead, coach, and grow a team of world-class engineers. Own the reliability and operational health of Tier 0 infrastructure (GitHub, Artifactory, Sourcegraph, GitHub Actions, CI runner fleet, cloud development environments). Develop deep cross-functional partnerships. Define and drive the roadmap, balancing operational excellence with strategic investments. Champion data-driven priorities and communicate productivity insights. You have 3+ years managing or leading engineering teams, on top of a strong individual-contributor engineering background (BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience). A track record of owning and delivering developer-facing or infrastructure systems at scale. Strong working knowledge of source control and CI infrastructure. Familiarity with common cloud and container technologies like AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Hashistack. Demonstrated operational leadership: incident response, sustainable on-call, and a reliability- and compliance-minded approach to critical systems. Proven ability to hire, grow, and retain engineers, and to coach their career development.
