Shape the player experience for a new free-to-play casual game by designing compelling stories, worlds, and reward systems. This fully remote role requires a passion for mobile gaming and an eye for detail to create engaging content from launch through live operations.
We are looking for a Game Content Designer to join the team building a new, unannounced free-to-play casual game. In this role you will shape what players actually experience day-to-day: the story that pulls them forward, the world they progress through, and the items and rewards that drive the core gameplay. You will work hand in hand with game design, art, and narrative to turn the game's vision into concrete, playable content, from the first session through months of live content updates.
*This is a REMOTE position.
Your Mission:
Design and write the game's story content: chapter structure, character dialogue, task descriptions, and narrative beats that connect gameplay progression to an unfolding story
Design world and map content: area layouts, unlock sequences, points of interest, and the pacing of how the game world opens up to the player
Design item content: item families, collections, and rewards, ensuring each has a clear identity and fits the game's setting and economy
Structure content into levels, chapters, and tasks with well-paced difficulty and session goals
Balance content against the game economy in close collaboration with the game designer, using spreadsheets and configs
Write clear, structured content specifications and briefs for artists and developers, and review implemented content in-game
Maintain consistency of tone, world, and characters across all content
Plan and produce content for live operations: new areas, chains, events, and seasonal updates after launch
3+ years of experience as a game content designer, game designer, level designer, or narrative designer on free-to-play mobile or web games
Shipped at least one F2P title, ideally in the casual space (merge, hidden object, match-3, decoration, or similar)
Strong understanding of casual game progression: task pacing, difficulty curves, session design, and how content feeds retention
Solid writing skills in English, with the ability to write concise in-game text and character dialogue
Comfortable working data-driven: spreadsheets, config files, and content pipelines hold no fear for you
Structured and detail-oriented, able to keep large amounts of interconnected content consistent and documented
Hands-on experience with story-driven casual genres (merge, hidden object, match-3 with meta, decoration) as designer or dedicated player
Player empathy and the ability to articulate why their content works
Experience writing briefs for artists and guiding them through production of the art assets needed to support the story
Experience with Unity, level editors, or in-house content tools
Experience designing content for live events and seasonal updates
Background in narrative design or creative writing for games
