About the Role

We are seeking a skilled 2D Generalist to join our dynamic art team. In this role, you will translate design requirements into high-quality concept art, support the project's artistic vision, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams.

You will contribute to a wide range of visual development tasks, including environment concepts, cartoon and stylized textures, mood paintings, prop concepts, and other high-quality 2D assets that support our 3D art pipeline.

Start Date: ASAP 
Location: 988 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1K7 (Fully on-site)

Salary Range: $55,000 - $90,000 annually, negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience

Employment Terms

• Less than 1 year of relevant experience: Initial 3-month contract
• 1-3 years of relevant experience: Initial 1-year contract
• More than 3 years of relevant experience: Permanent position

Contract durations are subject to individual assessment and may vary based on specific qualifications and experience.

Job Responsibilities

• Create character and environment concepts aligned with the project's stylized 3D cartoon art direction.
• Develop organic and hard surface textures to achieve desired visual aesthetics for characters, props, and environments.
• Produce high-quality rendered 2D assets to support the 3D art pipeline.
• Generate mood paintings, animation designs, and prop concepts.
• Rapidly sketch and produce digital illustrations to visualize initial project ideas.
• Enhance existing illustrations with screenshot paint-overs and retakes to refine project direction.
• Communicate visual concepts effectively within the team.
• Iterate on concepts to ensure alignment with the artistic vision.
• Develop detailed sketches from selected concepts.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Portfolio/showreel demonstrating strong character and environment artwork, with work that reflects a stylized 3D cartoon art direction.
• Proficiency in digital art tools such as Photoshop, Painter, or equivalent.
• Ability to iterate quickly on concepts with input from the Team Lead.
• Openness to receiving and providing constructive criticism.
• Strong understanding of mood, lighting, form, shape, and composition in conveying artistic intent.
• Keen eye for environmental design, including light, value, color, staging, and detail.
• Ability to translate ideas from concept to real-time game content.
• Solid foundation in traditional art, encompassing figure drawing, landscape painting, and illustration.
• Self-motivated, effective communicator, and enthusiastic team player.
• Willingness to share knowledge and support team growth.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada without any sponsorship from the employer.
• Familiarity with AI tools such as Gemini and ChatGPT is considered an asset.
• Experience in creating cartoon-style artwork for a female-oriented or lifestyle-focused game is a strong plus.
